Round 1. Thinking skills

  • Which of these thinking skills are important for your job or studies: analytical, creative, critical or divergent (creating solutions) thinking?
  • They say that it's through difficulty and discomfort that you develop your thinking skills. Do you agree or disagree? Do you do difficult things?
  • Is it important to be ingenious? In which situations? Do you know anyone who is ingenious? (very intelligent and skillful)
  • How reliable is guesswork in decision-making? Do you ever act on a hunch? (based on feeling)
  • Should you have your wits about you in any situation? How do you feel about it? (think quickly and make sensible decisions)
  • What questions/topics require deliberating? (thinking seriously and carefully about)
  • Are the media biased? Are there any prejudiced views on the Internet / TV? (an unreasonable dislike for something or someone)
  • Have you ever been completely baffled by anything? (puzzled)
  • Have you ever faced any dilemmas in your life? What was your resolution?


Round 2. Learning


  • Were you a conscientious student? (putting a lot of effort into your work) Does contentiousness pay off?
  • Were there any subjects difficult to take in? What about now? (understand and remember)
  • Is this the right way for students to swot up before the exam? (study very hard) What is a better way?
  • What was the last subject you read up on? (learn about by reading)
  • What challenges in learning should you face up to? (accept and try to deal with)
  • Is it necessary to have a mental age that equals your biological age?
  • Do you often make a mental note of something? Should we commit things to our memory or rather store them on our devices? (remember)
  • What are the advantages and shortcomings of distance learning? Would rather have an online class or an on-premise one? (offline)
  • Which of your skills would you like to brush up on? (practise and improve)
  • Do you easily come around to another point of view? (change your opinion) or do you prefer to stand your ground? (defend your opinion)


Round 3. Intellec
t


  • Would you pick somebody's brain if you need advice? Who would it be? Why? (ask for an opinion/advice)
  • When are people brainwashed into particular thinking? How to be immune to brainwashing? (pressurize into adopting particular beliefs)
  • Are there any projects or pieces of work that you can call your brainchild? (idea, plan, invention created by you)
  • What areas in your life do you show consideration for? (take seriously)
  • Do you like when someone do an impression of famous people? Do you find it funny? (copy another person's manner and speech, especially in order to make people laugh)
  • Should people be more broad-minded? Why (willing to accept behavior or beliefs that are different from your own) What is your attitude to the narrow-mindedness of some people? (unwilling to accept different beliefs)
  • Do you have a set of principles? Would you go against your principles?


Round 4. It's all about the mind


  • Could you make up your mind to go on a trip around the world? What will be the main obstacles? (to decide)
  • Is there anything that you're glad you've made up your mind about?
  • What people and events are etched on your memory? (you continue to remember it)
  • Why are some memories etched on our minds?
  • What things boggled your mind? (impress, amaze) Think of unusual films, books, architecture, tastes, devices, scientific discoveries, countries you've visited.
  • Your mind boggles when you see… meet.. hear.. (в уме не укладывается) It's more negative in comparison with the previous question.
  • Have you ever met people who blew your mind? (very exciting and unusual)
  • What phenomena in the modern world blow your mind? Think of politics, business, internet, etc. (affect very strongly)
  • What activities take your mind off unpleasant or worrying matters? (stop you from thinking about)
