Round 1. It's all about the money

  1. What is money for you?
  2. What do you like spending your money on (тратить на)?
  3. What things do people usually waste money on (тратить впустую на)? UV: throw money around (разбрасывать деньги)
  4. Is it a good idea to save money (копить деньги)? How can you do that? UV: rock-bottom prices (заниженные цены);
  5. Do you agree that we live in a consumer society (общество потребления)?
  6. Have you ever taken out a mortgage (ипотека) from a bank? Is it a good buy to buy a flat? UV: pay off the mortgage (погасить ипотеку);
  7. Why can people be broke (быть на мели)?
  8. Did you inherit (унаследовать) any valuables (ценности) from your relatives?
  9. What things do you want but can't afford (позволить) at this moment?
  10. How do you prefer to pay: in cash or by credit card?

Round 2. Work-life balance

  2. Is it madness (сумашествие) to work more than 70 hours a week? UV: be tied up (разг., быть мега занятым)
  3. Do you spend with your family quality time? (время, проведённое друг с другом) What do you usually do?
  4. Do you think plenty of people are happy with their work-life balance (баланс между работой и линой жизнью)?
  5. What can a person do to have more time for themselves (для себя) and their personal life?
  6. Are there any things you would like to change in your busy life (деловая жизнь) to start enjoying it?

Round 3. Back to school

  1. What comes to your mind when you hear the word "education"? UV: sit/take an exam (сдавать экзамен), enroll on/take a course (записываться на курс)
  2. Who is mainly responsible for a child's academic success (академиеский успех) — parents or teachers?
  3. When was the last time you took an exam? Did you pass (сдать) it or fail (провалить)? UV: Don't confuse pass an exam with sit/take an exam. Pass means to be successful in an exam or test.
  4. How important do you think school education (школьное образование) is?
  5. Was there a high standard (высокие стандарты) of education in your school/university?
  6. What do you think Mark Twain meant by saying "Never let school interfere (вмешиваться) with your education"?
  7. Did you have to wear a school uniform (школьная форма)? Did you like it?
  8. What was your favorite school/university subject (предмет)? What subjects were you good and bad at?
  9. What do you think of religious schools (религиозные школы)?
  10. Was your headteacher (директор) strict?


Round 4. Describing your work

  1. Would you like to work in another country? UV: to climb the career ladder (подняться по карьерной лестнице)
  2. How have working conditions (рабочие условия) changed in recent years?
  3. What company do you work for? Tell me some details.
  4. What are you responsible for (ответственен за)?
  5. Are you in charge of (ответственный за) any departments?
  6. Would you like to be self-employed (частный предприниматель)?
  7. What should people do to be promoted (получить повышение)? UV: a career takes off (карьера становится очень успешной)
  8. What age do you think is good to become retired (уходить на пенсию)?
  9. Should doing overtime (сверхуроное время) be additionally paid?
